We will endeavour to keep our site constantly updated, adding the latest and most relevant information from the most credible sources as it becomes available to us here at Majestic IT Services.
What is Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)?
Search Engine Optimisation is the process of making a web page highly relevant for certain key words or phrases. Successful Search Engine Optimisation helps a web page gain top positioning on the major spider-based search engines like Google, Yahoo, MSN, AOL, and ASK who represent 93% of all search engine based traffic, for the optimised words and phrases applicable to your websites products or services.
Search engines make use of software known as spiders or crawlers that normally access your home page and follow links to subsequent pages, indexing content as they drill down through your site’s structure. Much of the content they index is taken from existing copy on the page.
The above definition is roughly the average of all most commonly used definitions on the Web. The aim of SEO in simple terms is to get visitors to your web pages through search engines by making the content of your web pages relevant to people’s searches. The key word here is “content” – the text on each of your web page(s).
There is a lot more to SEO than the simple definition above. Please feel free to contact us to discuss any of the options below.
There are almost 107 million websites on the Internet, and this is steadily growing month-on-month. The increase brings the Web's total growth for 2006 to 30.9 million sites, shattering the previous one-year record gain of 17.5 milliong sites from 2005, a staggering 41.5% growth for the past 12 months.
Google registered in excess of 100,000 new sites in Jan 2007. This article published by Netcraft.com in Jan 2007, provides these facts in some details. So as you can see the Internet is still registering phenomenal growth across all sectors.
You can see just how many websites are actually 'Live' by reading this article.
I was recently sent a link in an email by a friend of mine back in the UK, and it made for interesting reading for anyone looking for a quick result in the search engines. I don't believe there is such a thing, all you can do is ensure that your site is correctly optimised and that your website is following all the correct guidelines for search engine placement, as there are so many companies employing all kinds of ‘tactics’ to try and beat the search engines, but just a word of warning, don’t try and beat the search engines, it doesn’t work.
85% of people surfing the Net looking for specific web sites that might help them in some way enter a ‘Search Term/Phrase’ into a Search Engine (i.e. Google, MSN etc.)
The Search Engine will then give them the results of that ‘search’ - the engine finds sites that have the phrase reflected both in a page’s content, its source code and many other variables and lists them in what it considers ‘relevance’ to the search enquiry. (normally 10 sites per page of results so if you’re number 150 the chances of anyone clicking on your link are remote at best).
We’ll need to think about what ‘phrase’ a potential visitor to your site would type into a Search Engine!
Beware....
Have you ever received an email that offered you something along the lines of:
Your site on 12,000 Search Engines for $99!!!
Please do not succumb to this nonsense, and here’s why.....
There are less than 20 Search Engines and Indexes that really matter. Most of the major players, Google, Yahoo, MSN etc. no longer use keywords as the main criteria for ranking website pages.
Most ‘Automatic’ submissions don’t work (in fact you can get banned!), you will end up with so much ‘Spam’ you’re Inbox will explode!
FFA ’s (Free For All) sites are the ‘kiss of death’
Need we go on? We could. There ARE some good companies out there but they don’t SPAM you to get your business!
